School Committee Organizational Meeting and Creation of Subcommittees
Organizational Meeting Each School Committee’s reorganization shall be effected at the first regular meeting of the School Committee after the election of School Committee members. At this meeting, there shall be an election for the ensuing year of a Chair and a Vice Chair. The Chair and Vice Chair shall serve until the next annual organizational meeting, at the pleasure of the School Committee. Removal prior to the next organizational meeting shall require a three fifths (3/5) vote of the whole School Committee. The School Committee Chair shall appoint members of the School Committee to standing sub-committees. Each committee shall elect its own Chair. The School Committee Chair shall appoint members of the School Committee to any temporary committees. Standing and Temporary Sub-Committees All sub-committees shall be composed of no more than two School Committee Members. All committees shall hold their meetings in public and conform to the same public access requirements as the School Committee as a whole. The chair of the sub-committee shall advise the Superintendent in advance when scheduling a meeting and shall, upon the Superintendent’s request, only schedule a meeting when the Superintendent may attend. The subcommittee shall confine its deliberations to the particular matters assigned to it and any discussion of unrelated school business shall be out of order. Legal Reference: 20-A MRSA § 1251
